THANKSGIVING

The library will be closed Thursday, November 22, so library staff may observe Thanksgiving Day with family members.

 

FRIENDS OF THE PIGEON DISTRICT LIBRARY’S SILENT AUCTION

The Friends will be hosting a Silent Auction on Friday, November 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the library. Proceeds from the Silent Auction will benefit the library and support library services to the community.

 

FREE COMPUTER WORKSHOPS
Led by Kim Gaeth, the following workshops are provided free of charge to area residents:

Nov. 24th, 9-10 AM: Introduction to Word Processing Cont./Using File Folders

Dec. 1st, 9-10 AM: Introduction to the Internet

Dec. 8th, 9-10 AM: Introduction to Email

OLIVER TOWNSHIP PATRONS

With the passage of the recent library millage by Oliver Township voters, the expiration date of cards for patrons from Oliver Township has been extended to December 31, 2010.  In addition, these patrons will receive $1.00 discount on the rental fee of DVDs and videos and a discount on the rental fee of the Community Room.   Homebound residents who live in Oliver Township may also participate in our “Books by Mail” program.  Simply call the library at 989-453-2341 to obtain a brochure or visit our website at www.pigeondistrictlibrary.com and click on Books by Mail to learn more about this free service.

 

LIBRARY WEBSITE UNDER CONSTRUCTION

The library staff would like its patrons to know that some of the links on the website are inactive. We are in the process of updating the website to be more user-friendly. Active links are located below the picture of the library building.


FREE WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS NOW AVAILABLE

The Pigeon District Library now offers both wired and wireless Internet access to patrons.  Wireless Internet access is available in both the Computer Lab and the Reference Room of the library for patrons who have a laptop or PDA that is wireless ready or that has a wireless network interface card.   Information going from your laptop or PDA to the wireless access point is WPA encrypted.  Patrons and visitors wishing to access the Internet, via wired or wireless connection, are required to stop at the Circulation Desk to sign-in and have a staff member type in a password.


LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
“Fun Day” will be the theme on November 27, 2007. One half-hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. with parent and child attending the story time, and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. GIVING TREE

With the holidays approaching, please consider the “Gift of Reading” by donating a new or gently used book and placing it under our GIVING TREE, which will be located in our Children’s Room after the Thanksgiving holiday. Book donations are being sought for boys and girls in the following age categories: 0-5, 6-9, 10-12, and 13-16. Books which are donated will be wrapped by library patrons and will be picked up by the Pigeon area food pantry on Thursday, December 13th and delivered to children in time for Christmas.

 

COFFEE TIME AT THE LIBRARY

The staff at the Pigeon District Library invites you to come to the library and enjoy a cup of coffee while you are reading the newspaper or a magazine or visiting with fellow readers. This little enjoyment in everyday life will take place on Thursdays in the Reference Room of the library. Come read and relax with a cup of coffee.
