Tail Waggin' Tutors is a new library program at the Pigeon District Library and is intended for children in grades K-4 who would like to build their reading skills by reading aloud to a furry friend.   The program encourages children to read by providing a non-judgmental listener and friend to read to that won't laugh at them if they make a mistake or stumble over a word, but rather lies next to them and enjoys the story being read.  Dogs used in the program are therapy dogs that are licensed, certified and insured.  Our current therapy dogs and their owners are members of Therapy Dogs, International.         Pre-registration is required and each reader will have ten minutes to read aloud to one of the dogs.  The child brings a book from home or chooses a library book that he/she will read aloud to the dog.  The reader, the dog, and the dog's handler share the space on a pet throw which has been placed in a special spot in the Community Room of the library.  The parent of the reader may use this time to browse the library's collections to choose something for himself/herself.For more information, please call the Pigeon District Library at 453-2341.
